Date: October 18, 2023

1. introduction:

CRDSA (Coordination of Rehabilitation and Development Services for Afghanistan) is currently implementing a WFP (World Food Programme) GFD project in Herat and Ghor Provinces. The primary objective of the project is to provide food assistance to vulnerable families in these regions. This ongoing report highlights the progress made by CRDSA in supporting the WFP project.

2. Project Coverage:

CRDSA has been actively involved in assisting families in both Herat and Ghor Provinces. In Herat Province, a total of 8,041 families across seven districts, namely Adraskan, Kohe Zor, Zawal, Shindand, Pushte Koh, Zerkoh and Farsi have been provided with food assistance. In Ghor Province, CRDSA has supported approximately 23,348 families in three districts, namely Pasaband, Taiwara, and Dolaina.

3. Food Commodity Package:

The food commodity package distributed by CRDSA to the beneficiary families includes - 50 kg of flour, 6.25 kg of peas, 4.55 kg of vegetable oil, 0.5 kg of salt, 1.5 kg of Lipid-Based Nutrient Supplement (LNS) and 3 kg of Wheat-Soy Blend (WSB)

4. Distribution Process:

CRDSA has been meticulously coordinating the distribution process to ensure that the food reaches the targeted families efficiently and effectively. The following steps have been undertaken during the distribution process:

- Identification of beneficiary families based on vulnerability criteria and needs assessment.

- Development of distribution plans and schedules to ensure equitable coverage.

- Procurement and transportation of food commodities to the distribution sites.

- Implementation of transparent and accountable distribution mechanisms.

- Monitoring and evaluation of the distribution process to address any challenges or issues that may arise.

5. Impact and Challenges:

The ongoing food assistance provided by CRDSA has had a significant impact on the target communities, particularly in alleviating food insecurity and addressing the nutritional needs of vulnerable families. The food commodities have not only provided sustenance but have also contributed to the overall well-being of the beneficiaries.

However, the project has also encountered certain challenges during implementation, including logistical constraints, adverse weather conditions, and limited access to remote areas. CRDSA is working closely with local authorities and stakeholders to overcome these challenges and ensure the smooth continuation of the project.

6. Conclusion:

CRDSA's ongoing support to the WFP project in Herat and Ghor Provinces has made a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable families. Through the distribution of essential food commodities, CRDSA has contributed to alleviating food insecurity and improving the nutritional status of the beneficiaries. The organization remains dedicated to overcoming challenges and ensuring the successful continuation of the project, with a focus on sustainable interventions for long-term impact
