Emergency livelihood assistance to safeguard food security and local food production of the most vulnerable rural families in Afghanistan affected by drought

Agriculture is an important factor for the growth of a nation that addresses key issues like employment scarcity, socio-economic disparity, and others. While a lot of NGOs are focusing on Livelihood related activities to promote employment generation, CRDSA is also carrying out various programs to mitigate the challenges and promote better agriculture and livelihood-based work-related practices.

CRDSA along with the financial support of FAO started a project under the name of: “Emergency livelihood assistance to safeguard food security and local food production of the most vulnerable rural families in Afghanistan affected by drought” which began in Feb and continued until now.
Under this project, CRDSA is delivering the below services and assistance to the most vulnerable smallholder farming households and landless households in Badghis province as listed below:
1. 3000 vulnerable livestock herding households receive winter emergency livestock protection package and technical training.
2. 1800 vulnerable smallholder farming households receive emergency agriculture spring cultivation package and technical training
3. 1600 vulnerable households – mainly landless laborers/ marginal landowners – benefit from a Cash for Work (CFW) Programme aimed at rehabilitating/constructing vital small-scale community irrigation infrastructures and 160 vulnerable households mainly headed by women, people with disabilities, and elders without any adult member of the family available to work on the cash-for-work site would benefit from an unconditional cash transfer (UCT).
The project’s so-far accomplishments are:
-Distribution of 200 KGs of Animal feed/per household to 2000 HHs in Jawand and 1000 HHs in Qadis.
-Distribution of 10 Kgs of Summer crop/per household to 900 HHs in Jawand and 900 HHs in Qadis.
Distribution of 8870 Afn/per household to 795 HHs (CFW) and to 78 HHs (UCT) in Jawand.
-Distribution of 8840 Afn/per household to 777 HHs (CFW) and to 78 HHs (UCT) in Qadis.
-7 structures constructed in Qadis; (2 Protective walls, 1 concrete wall, 3 stone masonry canals, and 1 dam)
